Article: Javeenbah Theatre Announces Auslan Interpreted Main Stage Shows - Javeenbah Theatre


Javeenbah Theatre is thrilled to announce its ongoing commitment to accessibility and inclusivity with the introduction of Auslan interpreted main stage shows for the rest of 2024 in a Gold Coast Community Theatre first. As part of our dedication to making theatre accessible to all members of the community, these interpreted performances will provide an opportunity for Deaf and hard of hearing audiences to fully engage with and enjoy our productions.

 

Javeenbah Theatre recognizes the importance of ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to experience the magic of live theatre. By offering Auslan interpreted performances, we aim to break down barriers and create a more inclusive environment for all members of our community.

The schedule for Auslan interpreted main stage shows for the remainder of 2024 is as follows:

  1. Picnic at Hanging Rock, Interpreted Performance: 22nd June 2024
  2. Kimberly Akimbo, Interpreted Performance: 7th September 2024
  3. Ladies Down Under, Interpreted Performance: 30th November 2024

"We believe that theatre has the power to bring people together, and by offering interpreted performances, we hope to welcome even more members of our community through our doors."

Review: The Norman Mailer Anecdote - Queensland Theatre (Door 3)

Written by Grace Wilson The Norman Mailer Anecdote, produced by Big Scary Animal kicked off Queensland Theatre’s Door 3 program with hard-hitting questions, complex narratives, and well-rounded performances. The Door 3 program, new to Queensland Theatre in 2024, gives space for emerging artists to create and perform pitched work with support and space contributed by Queensland Theatre. For a premiere program of this size, it was a waiting game to see how high the bar would be set, and Big Scary Animal set the precedent for Door 3 works to come.  The Norman Mailer Anecdote by Anthony Mullins explores ideas of sexual assault and the relationships that come apart in times of crisis. The SpongeBob Musical // Phoenix Ensemble

  Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?! Great ready for pure chaos as you descend to the sea floor in Phoenix Ensemble’s fantastic quirky musical for the whole family: The SpongeBob Musical! The stakes are high as SpongeBob & all of Bikini Bottom face total annihilation with the impending rupture of Mount Doom, the volcano. Chaos erupts and lives hang in the balance. And just when all hope seems lost the most unexpected hero rises up and takes centre stage proving that optimism really can save the world! The set design by Justin Tubb-Hearne is ingenious from top to bottom! The creative use of pool noodles to signify sea anemones is a stroke of genius. Hanging about the stage are tons of intriguing items that resemble the sea floor such as boots, car rims, rope and many other things.
