Article: GCLT Delivers the QLD Premiere of Honeymoon in Vegas

The Gold Coast Little Theatre is thrilled to be the first company in the sunshine state to stage this contemporary musical comedy.

Honeymoon In Vegas was first performed on Broadway in 2015. The show's composer, Jason Robert Brown (Songs For A New World, The Last Five Years, Parade) developed this musical not only as a love-letter to songwriters like Kander and Ebb and Cy Coleman, but also to present a distinct musical comedy for the 21st century.

Director Tony Campbell reveals, "this show is the perfect blend of escapism and dramatic resonance, with the pace of a technicolour screwball comedy served with the contemporary spice of Jason Robert Brown".

Through a very unusual love triangle set against the backdrops of Brooklyn, Las Vegas and Hawaii, this musical takes a satirical look at love and commitment, devotion to family and the fear of loss.

As Campbell suggests, "it is the power of comedy and laughter that allows an audience to reflect on these complex themes".

Last year, Campbell directed Australian actor Steven Tandy (Boy Swallows Universe, The Sullivans) in one of Neil Simon's final plays 45 Seconds From Broadway for GCLT.

He is looking forward to finding an energetic and passionate ensemble of performers for this premiere production.

"I am a strong believer in fostering a meaningful sense of collaboration and ensemble within any cast. Honeymoon In Vegas is a very distinct ensemble piece. Every performer will have the opportunity to challenge themselves physically and musically. And most importantly, sharing their artistry as authentically as possible".

Campbell further explains, "I am particularly excited about staging this show at GCLT. It has such a boutique, off-Broadway feel; and the possibilities are endless for innovative design as well as the unique opportunity to interact within an intimate performance space".

Working alongside Tony Campbell is a stellar creative team including Julie Whiting as Musical Director and Natalie Cassaniti and Andrew King as Choreographers.

"Honeymoon In Vegas will be a show defined by sophisticated movement and, a 14 piece band featured live on stage".

In the effect of this story and what it means to Australians. Children study the text in schools, the name, and the mystery, is synonymous with Australian literature.  “Whether Picnic at Hanging Rock is fact or fiction, my readers must decide for themselves. As the fateful picnic took place in the year nineteen hundred, and all the characters who appear in this book are long since dead, it hardly seems important.” - Joan Lindsay, Author This adaptation of the text is extremely true to the original material, and serves as an excellent example of the power of theatre as a way of bringing stories to life. This adaptation, expertly staged at Javeenbah Theatre, is a triumph of storytelling. It is clear that dire...

Review: Freshblood Festival - Vena Cava

Written By Thor Morrison Upcoming creatives need a place to experiment, to prosper, to explore, and even to sometimes miss the mark. It is essential that spaces that allow this to happen exist, especially in a world obsessed with perfectionism. The Freshblood Festival is an annual event run by QUT Student Theatre Company Vena Cava, focused on young writers and performers, and it does just that.
